You know you're getting older when...

Someone says to you:

"Oh my God, that's how old you are? Does that mean you actually remember Kurt Cobain dying?"

It doesn't feel like it was that long ago.

Art - Yep. I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard...

Stinky - that was me, circa 1990. "You actually remember John Lennon dying?" It seemed like it happened a lifetime ago. I guess it WAS nearly a lifetime ago for me then.

DFP - You're right, she was a youngster! It was actually 13 years ago almost exactly. Time flies doesn't it?

Miss Wolfe - See? See? That's what I mean!

Welcome to the blog, BTW.

Art - whoops! Life got in the way a bit there.

SR - no no, there was no birthday. Just sitting around in a pub with some youngsters and feeling old for the first time.

Dzer - Sorry to break the bad news to ya. ;)

OK; I know this whole comment-string has long since flown, but I've gotta add my own little story to the mix. . .

Sometime mid-80s (I was married and out of college), a buddy and I are having lunch at a Mexican place, and a Beatles tune comes on the piped-in music. College kid in the next booth says, "Geez, that sounds just like McCartney."

His buddy says, "Doofus, it is McCartney."

"No it isn't - that's the Beatles."

"Idiot - Paul McCartney was one of the Beatles."

(smug tone of superiority): "No he wasn't - McCartney's band was Wings."

I was still in my 20s, but that was the first time I felt really old. . .

i teach 8th graders. every year, they are different kids, but the same age. and every year I am older.

kids who've never seen "The Wedding Singer" or even know the side splitting laughter from Adam Sandler!

kids who have no idea who Baz Lurhman is and why "Strictly Ballroom" was so good.

I knew I was getting old yesterday at a school talent show type of thing. I kept thinking, when I was in school we could NEVER have [insert shameful behavior here].
